Specialized Invitational Finals/California State Championship Update
Racers,
The Specialized Invitational Finals has been merged with the One Day California State MTB Championships. The California State Championship is USA Cycling sanctioned, and therefore recognized as the official California State MTB Championships.
To that end only a California resident can win the California State title; however the Specialized Invitational title can be won by any competitor, regardless of where he/she resides. We classify a California resident as someone who has a physical home address in the state of California, and who can produce some form of legal California identification such as a driver’s license. The first Californian to cross the line will be declared the official 2011 State Champion regardless whether it’s a 1st, 4th or 10th place finish.
Additionally, since the merger of the two events, we have forgone the initial qualifying criteria set forth earlier in the year for riders to meet to make it to the Specialized Invitational Final. This means everyone is welcome to come race with us on this weekend!
The race held on September 12th will now be a winner take all scenario for both the Invitational Final, and the One Day California State Champions. This means two titles are up for grabs at one event!
Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter, and we hope to see you out there.
Sincerely,
US Cup Staff
